My C64 Ultimate arrived, and as expected, it went from "New Object" to "Object" almost instantly. Did a side-by-side comparison to my existing original C64, and yup, it's the same. Also as expected. I haven't fired it up quite yet, partly because I'm waiting for a rainy day to do a bunch of tech stuff, but mostly because my studiolab is a clutterfuck.
It's been like this for quite some time now - there's a whole lot of tidying up that I need to do so I can do the things I actually want to be doing. While it's great to be able to work from home, that also means I live at the office, so it gets difficult to focus on larger home projects when I'm effectively always at work. Add in the low-grade ADHD that everyone has in the age of hypermedia, and things easily become a challenge to keep up with.
One thing that keeps popping up in my mind is my literal workbench. It's a collection of Ikea tables in an L-shape, one of which has several parts cabinets sitting on top of it. I kind of boxed myself into a corner (hah) and limited available surface area to even work on stuff, then I just cluttered up what little I have with parts and packaging and half-finished widgets. Add the 64 Ultimate to the list, and its all just storage for dust collection.
Now that I've landed in my forever home, it's high time I upgraded my bench (another project for the list). I'm waffling between getting a premade industrial workbench or building something completely custom, and it might be best if I just pull the trigger on the former so I don't paralyze myself with Yet Another Unfinished Thing.
I have a few days off coming up, and I'll have to force myself to not look at dayjob adjacent things while I should be focusing on the things I took the time off to do. Reorganizing the studiolab is among them, along with lots of yard work and just Being Outside. All of this means I need to get the hell off of the Web and get to work.
